Ivy Tech student Miguel Sanchez receives the Gary Gilot Civil Service Award
Ivy Tech student Miguel Sanchez is this year’s recipient of the Gary Gilot Civil Service Award, nominated by his project mentor as a part of the Tolson Neighborhood team. Peers and mentors describe Migual as hardworking, a great listener, and someone who takes initiative and asks compelling questions that make team members think more critically. With personal experience in community engagement, he has been adamant about working with the community, not for the community, within this internship experience and his own personal life. The 2021 Gary Gilot Civil Service Award recipient for Elkhart is Miguel Sanchez, a Liberal Arts major from Ivy Tech Community College. About the Award
Gary Gilot has served in public service engineering leadership positions in our community for over 40 years in Elkhart and South Bend. Gary is a co-founder of Center for Civic Innovation’s (CCI) internship program and continues as a volunteer project mentor. In recognition of Gary’s ongoing commitment to CCI and the broader community, CCI honors interns who stand out with a heart for civil service, servant leadership, and a mindset of doing things with, not to or for, the community.
